Grubhub promotions for drivers with a day job

Grubhub driver promotions for evening and weekend drivers: missions, contribution pay, driver levels, booking blocks and cash-out fees, plus diner deals.

The short answer

Grubhub doesn’t publish a fixed list of driver promotions. The extras are missions, sweepstakes and special offers shown in the Driver app, and contribution pay tops up slower days. If you only drive evenings and weekends, the biggest lever is keeping your driver level healthy so you can book the busy blocks. If you came for cheaper takeout instead, the dependable deal is free Grubhub+ with Amazon Prime, covered near the end.

Time cost: about 4 to 8 hours across Saturday and Sunday. You don’t need weeknights, but you won’t get a driver level until you’ve done 20 deliveries, so the first few weekends are slower.

What counts as a promotion for Grubhub drivers

Promotions sit on top of normal pay, so start there. Grubhub’s driver site says you’re paid per order. Each order pays base pay, which depends on mileage, the type of delivery and the time it takes. You keep 100% of tips on completed deliveries, and mission bonuses come on top.

Missions are the main promotion. Grubhub describes them as extra pay on top of base pay, and it also mentions sweepstakes and other special offers drivers can enter. The Driver FAQ adds contribution pay, where Grubhub adds money to guarantee minimum rates on slower days. It also mentions a Driver Rewards & Recognition page listing discounts and offers for drivers.

Grubhub’s public pages don’t give mission amounts or terms. Blogs quote large sign-up, referral and weekly delivery-count bonuses, and some claim a set acceptance rate is needed for contribution pay, but we couldn’t match any of it to Grubhub’s own pages. The Driver app shows what’s actually running in your market this week. If you’re also weighing other apps, our comparison of Grubhub vs DoorDash vs Uber Eats for evenings and weekends sets them side by side, and we cover DoorDash’s equivalents in DoorDash promo codes and new Dasher bonuses.

Why your driver level beats any single bonus

With a 9-to-5, the hard part is getting on the road at the few hours you’re free. Grubhub caps how many drivers can be active in a market at once, so switching on “Taking offers” whenever you like only works if there’s room. Booked time slots, which Grubhub calls blocks, solve this, and higher driver levels get first access to them. Plenty of other people with day jobs want the same evening and weekend slots, so that early access counts for a lot.

There are three levels: Partner, Pro and Premier. Grubhub updates your level every week from your last 14 days of stats, and new drivers get a level after 20 deliveries. Three stats count:

  • Offer Commitment Rate: unassigning an offer after accepting it lowers this, and Grubhub says it may mean fewer offers later.
  • On-time Arrival at Merchant Rate: how often you reach the restaurant on time.
  • Schedule Commitment Rate: missing a block you booked counts against you.

In practice, book fewer blocks than you think you can handle and work every one you book. Because the window is only 14 days, one bad weekend fades from your stats fairly quickly. A habit of booking optimistically and cancelling on Sunday because the kids need you will keep pushing you back down the queue.

Booking blocks around your working week

In the Driver app, go to Scheduling, then Update Schedule, and tap any open block marked with a “+”. Grubhub says working a booked block gives you dedicated delivery time and can help both your earnings and your level.

Before you book, look at any missions in your market and check whether their timing fits hours you can give without friction at home. A mission that needs Friday night is worth little if Friday is your one evening with your partner. A calm moment midweek, with the family calendar open next to the app, is a better time to book than a busy Saturday morning.

Before you start: your day job

Most employers have no problem with a weekend delivery gig. Still, read your employment contract or staff handbook for anything about outside work, moonlighting or conflicts of interest, and whether you have to declare a second job. Keep the two apart: don’t accept offers during work hours, don’t run the Driver app on a work phone, and never use a company vehicle for deliveries.

You’ll need to be 18 or older (21 in Las Vegas), pass identity verification and a background check, and have a smartphone with a data plan. Car drivers need a license and auto insurance, and bike riders need a license or state ID. Ask your insurer directly whether your policy covers delivery driving, because policies vary and you don’t want to find out after a fender bender. This is general guidance, not legal or insurance advice.

A realistic weekend schedule

Here’s one example. We assume you want both mornings free and dinner at home at least one night, and that blocks like these are open in your market, which isn’t guaranteed.

On Saturday, keep the morning for errands, sports or a slow breakfast. Book a lunch block from around 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., then go home, eat and rest through the afternoon. If you still have energy, book a dinner block from about 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., which gets you home for the end of the evening.

On Sunday, keep the morning and early afternoon fully off. Book one block, a dinner block or a lunch block if Sunday evenings are when your household gets ready for the week. That comes to roughly eight hours, enough to learn what your market pays while leaving most of the weekend to you. Getting the money out

Grubhub says earnings become available 15 minutes after a delivery is completed. Instant Cash Out lets you withdraw up to $500 a day. It’s free for Chase customers and $0.50 per cash-out with other banks, and it’s unavailable for 72 hours after you change your bank details. If your bank doesn’t support real-time payments, a weekend cash-out may not land until Monday.

If you can wait, skip the fee. Anything not cashed out by 11:59 p.m. CST on Monday goes into the regular direct deposit, paid on Thursdays.

Will this wear you out?

It can. Delivery driving means traffic, hunting for parking and apartment stairs after a week at a desk, and booked blocks are a real commitment because skipping them hurts your level. If you’re already running low, book one block and see how you feel before adding a second.

Watch the calendar too. December, school holidays and summer travel all pull on family time, and those are good weeks to book less even if a mission looks tempting. The extra money rarely makes up for a partner who has handled every school run alone.

Promotions that aren’t what they seem

Around December 24, 2025, users received fake “Holiday Crypto Promotion” emails promising 10x returns on bitcoin. KRON4 reported that they came from Grubhub’s real b.grubhub.com subdomain, and Grubhub called them inauthentic. Grubhub also confirmed a data breach in January 2026, saying financial information and order history weren’t affected. A real-looking sender address proves nothing, so trust offers you see inside the Driver app and ignore anything asking you to send money.

One real payout did go out. In August 2026 the FTC sent 640,038 payments totaling more than $23.8 million to Grubhub drivers and diners after its 2024 case against the company. The FTC’s Grubhub refunds page says checks must be cashed within 90 days and PayPal payments accepted within 30 days, and it lists the refund administrator’s number, 1-888-446-4992. If anyone contacts you about a refund, check it against that page.

If you came here for diner deals

For cheaper takeout, the most reliable deal is Grubhub+, which has been an ongoing perk for US Prime members since May 2024. Grubhub’s Prime offer page says there’s no expiration as long as you stay Prime. Grubhub+ normally costs $9.99 a month. It gives $0 delivery fees and lower service fees on eligible orders, generally $12 or more, though the minimum shown on each menu is the one that applies. You also get 5% back as credit on eligible pickup orders, and that credit expires 90 days after your most recent credit. Taxes, tips and other fees still apply. Only activate the perk through Amazon’s own offer page.

We couldn’t confirm any promo code that’s live right now. The recent Prime-linked codes, DEALS20 and FIRSTORDER, both ended in October 2026. As of November 2026, Rakuten lists 4% cash back for new Grubhub customers on their first purchase and 1% for existing customers, though those rates change often. If you also drive, Amazon has said that couriers are paid the same for orders placed on Amazon as for orders placed on Grubhub itself.

A word on taxes

Mission bonuses and contribution pay are income, like base pay and tips, and all of it is taxable whether or not you receive a form. Keep a simple record of earnings and miles, set some money aside each month, and ask a tax professional what you can deduct. This isn’t tax advice, just a nudge to plan before April.

Scaling it gently

Doubling your Grubhub income can be done without giving up your whole weekend. Add a second Saturday block, or one short weeknight block if your evenings allow, then wait two weeks to see how your level and your energy hold up. Reliability is what earns first access to the best blocks, so steady growth works better than a sudden push. If missions in your market keep landing on times you can’t work, stay at the level you’re at.

If you only have one weekend

On Saturday morning, read your employment contract, ask your insurer about delivery cover, and apply on Grubhub’s driver site. Signing up includes a background check, so you may not be able to drive that weekend. If not, spend Saturday afternoon learning the Driver app: the scheduling screen, any missions listed and the payout settings.

If you’re already approved, book one Saturday dinner block and nothing else. Note your hours, miles, earnings and how tired you feel afterward. On Sunday, look at the missions showing and book one block for next weekend if the numbers look worthwhile. Then spend Sunday evening at home and decide calmly whether this fits your life.
